The Strait of Hormuz: Reports of a Crumbling US Blockade
Despite the US military's announcement of a naval blockade, recent media reports indicate that several tankers sanctioned by the United States have navigated the Strait of Hormuz, including the Chinese-owned vessel 'Rich Starry'.
This approximately 190-meter-long ship is currently flying the flag of Malawi, according to Lloyd's List. Additionally, the tankers 'Murlikishan' and 'Elpis', as well as the cargo ship 'Christianna', have reportedly also visited Iranian ports on their routes.
According to the US Central Command (Centcom), the blockade, which came into effect at 16:00 CEST yesterday, was to be 'impartial towards ships of all nations' that were calling at or leaving Iranian ports in the Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. Neutral transit traffic through the Strait of Hormuz was not to be hindered.
Bloomberg: Iran Considering Blocking Its Own Ships
Meanwhile, there are increasing indications of a potential second round of negotiations. Bloomberg reports that Tehran is considering not allowing its own merchant ships to pass through the Strait of Hormuz to avoid jeopardizing potential talks with the United States about ending the war.
